September and October Mission Trips
Due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and other personal crises of team members, our American teams had to cancel mission trips to Chiapas during these 2 months. The teams were all from the Louisiana and Texas gulf coast areas. Our Mexican friends continued with prior commitments that had been made and the work of the Lord continued. The church in Ixtapa was built as scheduled. Thank you Abbeville Christian Training Center and Pastor Harold and Sharon Vincent for your support for the construction of the church in Ixtapa. We also thank Dr. Jim Nichols for accompanying Pastor Guillermo Mendoza and Efrain Solorzano from Houston to Chenalho the first week of October. The pastor's conference continued as scheduled that week, and we praise God for the wonderful reports that we have heard. Pastor Mendoza (80 years old) is in excellent health and has much wisdom to share with our young pastors. Dr. Nichols worked all week in the Chenalho clinic. His dental ministry and his love and compassion for the people of Chiapas is always a tremendous blessing.
Our prayers continue to be with all of those who suffered loss during this past hurricane season. Among those are our own family members and friends along the US gulf coast, as well as those hit by the destructive rains and mudslides in Southern Mexico and along the eastern coast around Cancun from Hurricanes Stan and Wilma. Our dear friends Pastor Humberto and his family also lost all of their personal household items in flood waters near Monterrey, Mexico this past fall. It has been an extremely difficult time for so many, but we know that we serve a God who is bigger than the devastation that has hit us from every side.
II Cor. 4:8,18. "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair. . . While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."
