Medical Trip Oct. 5-11, 2007

God was so special to all who were a part of the fall medical trip. The following is an email from Tammy of a beautiful experience that she has given us permission to share with you.

"Something happened to me yesterday morning during the worship service that I wanted to share with you guys. As all of you know I just returned from an awesome Mission trip to Chiapas, Mexico. I shared in my daily journal that each morning we gathered in the church to pray before we began to minister to the needs of those there. One morning as we began to pray we heard a loud roar of prayer and as we looked all those present had stood to their feet (the women had placed their prayer shawls over their heads) and had joined in prayer with us. The sound was like a mighty rushing wind and I know it must have been the same sound they heard on Pentecost.> Yesterday morning as we were singing the song “We Worship You” there is a line in the song that says, “Every tribe in every Nation will worship You”. As we sang those words my hands went up and I began to weep as I saw the heavens open and tribes (Indian, Haitian, Honduran, Mexican, Jewish, American, etc.) were gathered together with one voice hands lifted in worship to our Father. He made it so real to me that we are one family and we must love one another with all our hearts. When we witnessed the faith and the power that these Indians have in prayer I remembered the power that I felt in the churches in Honduras and what my friends have told me about Haiti. My friends God is at work to bring His family back together and we all are to be a part of it. We are to reach out in love to all we see – time is too short to dwell on the trivial things of this world – its time we are about our Father’s business. God doesn’t want perfect - none of us are perfect –– He only wants a willing heart.> I love you guys,> Have a Blessed Day,> Tammy

Report of Medical Trip October 5-11 from Jim Nichols, D.D.S.

We had a small, but powerful group of energetic workers travel to the “highways and byways” of Chiapas this October: Dr. John Mahoney, Katherine Blalock, Tammy Whittington, and myself. Our team of 2 dentists, 2 “dental assistants”, along with Dr. Lulu, Russell and some interpreters spent 5 full days providing medical and dental care for the needy. We spent the first full day at Casa Hogar Alegre, an orphanage in the capital city of Chiapas, Tuxtla-Gutierrez. This is a Christian-run orphanage housing about 110 orphans. The website is http://www.chiapasorphanage.org/ I found out on this trip that another name for this orphanage is Odres Nuevos, which means new wineskins in Spanish. These are precious, precious young people in whom God is doing a healing, restoring work. The joy, love and faith are indescribable! If our duffel bags had been just a little larger, the orphanage would have had less than a hundred kids when we left!
The second day we spent at Torre Fuerte, the large church in Tuxtla-Gutierrez, that is the home church of Dr. Lulu, her husband Raul, and is pastured by Carlos and Everardo Tovilla, all of whom have given so unselfishly in logistical support through the years. Members of this church have been drivers, interpreters, welders, preachers, musicians, and prayer warriors in helping God expand His kingdom through the mountains of Chiapas. It was an honor to finally be able to bless them with some much-needed dentistry.
The next 3 days we went to Yabteclum, San Antonio del Monte, and Chenalho, working with the Indians. In Yabteclum and San Antonio del Monte, we left the Bible school around 7:15 in the morning and didn’t return until around 9:00 at night, with only about a 30 minute lunch break. Thank God we were able to see just about everybody who had a problem, and only turned away a few people who only wanted cleanings. John, Katherine, Tammy, and Dr. Lulu worked so tirelessly, so unselfishly, and so joyfully, with no thought or complaint about driving back to the Bible school late each evening. Philippians 2:4, “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”, really speaks to the heart and attitude of these faithful servants! I know that God smiled down on this expression of love!
